DIY website or Website Launch: what should a small business compare?
Both paths can lead to a useful first page. The difference is who owns the design work, review process, launch details, and upkeep.
A small business can build its own first website, or it can ask someone else to shape and launch the page. Neither choice is automatically better. The useful test is whether you have the time, tools, and confidence to turn your business details into a clear mobile-friendly page—and whether the offered service covers the parts you want help with.
Digital Nebraska's Website Launch is a defined one-page service, not an open-ended web project. Here is a practical way to compare it with doing the work yourself.
Start with the page's job
Write down what a new visitor should understand: your core services or products, current contact details, address and hours, and the next step you want them to take. If that can be expressed clearly on one page, either path may fit. If separate services, locations, audiences, or functions need their own pages, do not squeeze them into the one-page offer. The one-page fit guide helps you make that scope decision first.
What you would own in a DIY build
Building it yourself means someone on your team chooses the page structure, prepares the words and images, checks how it works on a phone, connects the domain, and decides how it will be hosted and maintained. You may enjoy that control. It also means setting aside time to finish the page and revisit it when business details change.
DIY check: Who will write and review the service descriptions, choose appropriate images, make the contact step obvious, test the mobile layout, and handle the domain and hosting after launch?
This is not a claim that a particular website builder is easier, cheaper, or worse. Compare the work your team would actually take on, plus the tools and hosting you would choose, against the defined service scope below.
What Website Launch includes
Website Launch costs $995 upfront and includes one mobile-friendly page, deployment, one year of hosting, and two consolidated revision rounds. A round is one complete punch-list through an intake form or markup link, not several streams of piecemeal messages. Additional changes or scope require a separate charge or agreement.
Work begins after Digital Nebraska has a completed Onboarding Intake Form and the required business contact details, address and hours, core service or product descriptions, high-resolution PNG or vector logo, and DNS or domain-registrar access. You can provide brand photography and copy, or Digital Nebraska can use licensed stock imagery and professionally structured standard copy based on your intake responses. Custom copywriting and original photography are not included.
The preparation checklist helps you gather those inputs and plan useful feedback. Digital Nebraska describes the work as fast, but does not publish a fixed completion timeframe.
Check the boundaries after launch
The included hosting year covers hosting service, automated daily backups, and SSL maintenance. Post-launch text swaps, image updates, and structural changes are outside that included support. Hosting renewal is quoted at renewal; a site transfer is available with at least 30 days' notice. These terms matter if you expect frequent changes, so include upkeep in your decision rather than only the first design day.
Website Launch does not include a multi-page architecture, e-commerce checkout or inventory setup, custom third-party API or database integrations, original photography, custom copywriting, or an ongoing SEO or advertising service. A DIY route may let you pursue some of those needs separately, but do not assume they are part of the $995 offer. Neither path by itself guarantees search visibility or customer results.
Make a choice you can support
- Can one focused page answer the questions most visitors bring?
- Does your team have time and a named person to build, review, launch, and maintain the page?
- Would the two included revision rounds and first-year hosting support meet your needs?
- Are any excluded functions actually required before launch?
If you want the defined one-page build, review the full Website Launch scope, cancellation terms, and checkout. If you need a broader project or want to talk through DIY versus the service first, tell Digital Nebraska what your first website needs to do.
